GOVERNEMNT OF MEGHALAYA, DEPARTMENT OF TEXTILES, OFFICE OF THE ZONAL OFFICER, SERICULTURE, GARO HILLS, MEGHALAYA.
Clothing, being one of the essential in life not only to cover the nakedness but also to supplement good and smart looks of individuals. To be arrayed in fine, coarse, clean and bright clothing as is needed for physical, mental, spiritual and emotional demand it goes hand in hand and as tangible and intangible with every aspect of human life adding to the warm, comfort and dignity. It also closely associated to the biblical concept of Adam and Eve as to whom God Himself sewn tunic garments out of animal skin. (Gen3:21).
Being first of its kind in Garo Hills and the state as well, the VA Silk Industry is evolved from small to large scale, that could be met peoples’ requirement in terms of clothing, designed to produce Traditional and Modern attires out of locally available Handmade woven fabrics. The founder of VA Silk Industry being dedicated to offer the quality service to the people became the Master Trainer in Silk Spinning, Reeling and Weaving since 2003 based in Tura Daldagre and advanced to the present status generating much employment opportunity to the unemployed youths.
With the concept of making large scale service the successful entrepreneur and the founder of VA Silk Industry, Smt. Vivien A Sangma, with her visionary mindset imparted the series of training to hundreds of Hand-loom and Loin-loom weavers in different villages of Garo Hills who were, with their products of cotton and silk fabrics became the main feeders of the present VA Silk Industry.
